Marketing is Taking so Much of my Time

Omayra cover RGB no isbn When I started the process of writing this book, I did so with such a sense of adventure. It was fun and the story flowed easy. Most days I could not wait to sit and write my story. I did not want to do anything but write. Life was great and I enjoyed every minute. This does not mean that I had an easy life. I was an Army officer and was an environmental science engineering officer with much responsibilities. However, my life was structured. Now, I am medically retired from the Army and although from the outside looking in it may seem that I have all the time in the world to write the reality is that now my first book is published and the marketing processing has begun and is in full force.

Now, I have less time than ever to write and when I make the time to write I am not inspired or motivated enough to write a single word. All I think about is about the likeability of the first book, the amount of money required to get the second book published, the bills I must pay and the mountain of papers I must read. I decided to go back to school and do a doctorate. Wait, before you congratulate me on my achievements, I am only studying because I need the money the GI Bill gives me to help veterans pay the rent. Did I mention bills?

Anyway, needless to say, I want my structured life back. I want to go back and work 40 plus hours per week in the Army, have a steady pay, and write at my scheduled time. However, I can’t go back and the marketing is consuming my entire day and all my funds. I am learning all I can and reading all I can get my hands on, but it is not enough.

What is the lesson I learned? I must schedule and structure my time with months of anticipation. Before I publish the second book, I will set up a schedule and have a structure in my life that will guide my actions. I will prepare an achievable budget and I will get some Yoga lessons.

I am not a fan of Marketing. And If I had the money I would pay to get this done, however, for now, I must learn and do it myself.
